Black Mountain Vacation

Clark Griswald with a set of coconuts = a single momma takes her ill fated children on a vacation.

This is the image I want you to keep in mind when I explain our family trips.  Black Mountain North Carolina is known to be a place for rejuvenation, contemplation and introspection. Yeah right, try telling that to two kids, aged 12 and 16. The small town atmosphere is wonderful, the shops are a step above the trendy cheap trinkets that we seem to be finding all over the place: Not once did I have to resist the urge to buy this tacky thin tee-shirt that says “Black Mountain or Bust!!” It’s more like hand-made jewelry, paintings, cool restaurants, a candy store, and handcrafted furniture. Cute, quaint stores like this one:

I think that chandelier is made outta sticks, but I’m really liking it….

“Guests who visit Black Mountain usually come in two varieties, those who stay often and those who are here for the first time.  For those who come time after time, their agenda is often just for rest and relaxation.  They might walk through town or along tree-lined residential streets.  There they stroll through the numerous upscale gift shops, galleries and Appalachian style craft stores, with unique local craftsmen demonstrating iron works, wood bowl turning and hand thrown pottery.”

I am SURE there is like some uber fabulous cabin that overlooks the Black Mountain sunsets …..

We didn’t ever find it. We did, however, find a Comfort Inn; which we were comfortable in….woulda been much more comfortable here:

But decided against the Biltmore Inn…on account of lack of coconuts and all……
