Hope, Faith, Love

I’m totally pumped, I’m heading downtown this afternoon to visit some children who are patients at our local medical college.  I have been trying to think of something to bring them but it wasn’t until this morning that I decided that a lil stuffed dog would be perfect.  In my book, the main character (Bella Blue) has been practicing endlessly for a ice-skate-a-thon benefit that’s held to raise money for an animal shelter.

Not that my main character likes animals.  She doesn’t.  Dogs to Bella Blue are nothing more than: scruffy fur explosions that sometimes leave other unwanted explosions in her neighborhood park, not to mention the damage these ‘furry mongrels’ can do to a girls Barbi collection; the results can be devastating……

I’ve been given some rules to follow.

Don’t ask their names.

Don’t ask them why they are in the hospital.

Don’t talk about God or anything religious.

Considering my book is religious, focuses on the significance of a person’s name and asks a child ’what’s broken in you?’ I’m thinking I need to tweak my message a bit.

It’s fine, really, I can’t stand for people to ram religion down another’s throat.  It just turns people away, so I think I will explain the:

The can’t help its are when a person feels all down and they think they can’t help it….

Modern day/grown up version: sad, overwhelmed, feel sorry for yourself, even depressed.

So I will explain to the children why Bella Blue is having a dratted blah blah day and ask them if they ever feel like that, and then ask them if they feel like they could ever possibly be susceptible to those mean ole dratted can’t help its!

I even wrote out some options for them to choose from, they include:

A. No, I’m perfect, have a perfect life and my boa has never once lost a feather.

B. Yes, but I try to ignore them by hiding under the kitchen table.

C. Sometimes, but next time I’ll try the 3 steps.

These steps include: 1.Pray, 2.Ask God who I can be a blessing to and 3. Sit back and be thankful for all the blessings I already have.

Oops. I think I just mentioned a NO NO!

Maybe I should try to the public school approach.  What is it they say?????

“Sit quietly for a moment of peace and reflection?” Yep, that’ll work.

Be still.

Be giving.

Be thankful.

Whew, I feel a lil better now with my tweaked message :)

I’m hoping to instill a message of faith, hope, and love in their lil hearts.

After all, doesn’t everyone have a bad day, a bad week, sometimes a bad life? Don’t we all need to hear it’s all gonna be ok, one way or another, things will work out, life will get better….

And no matter what….The Greatest of These is Love.
